Engine rebuilds & conversions

At Karreman Engineering many engine conversion were fulfilled in the past. Examples are a BMW E30 with S50B32 and an E21 with M20B25. When building a different engine into a chassis were the electronics and hardware are not design for, consequences and custom changes must be made. Electronical wise the immobilizer must be turned off (depended on customer wish), error codes, engine speed limiters for missing electrical components must be adjusted. Karreman Engineering is able to do such conversions and can adjust the engine ECU to fulfill the demands of the conversion.

A list and links of conversions done is listed below:

Besides conversions, engine rebuilds, revisions or checks can be carried out at Karreman Engineering. Our workshop has a wide range of tools and measurement equipment to inspect the engine on wear or clearances.

A list of engine rebuilds is presented in the links below:

A small overview of possible measurements can be viewed below

  • Cylinder bore measurement
  • Crankcase “ground”bore for crankshaft bore measurement (before red, after blue)
  • Crankshaft axial play measurement
  • Crankshaft main & crank hub diameter measurement
  • Conrod big-end and small end measurement
  • Piston diameter measurement
  • Piston spring clearance measurement
  • Bearing thickness

With these measurements the following clearances can be calculated

  • Cylinder bore to piston diameter clearance
Manufacturers of pistons from different material can demand higher (cold) engine clearance due to expansion of the piston itself.
  • Engine/conrod – bearing to crankshaft clearance
Instead of using plastigauge which is know as the looney toon measurement at engine builders shops a calculation can be made from the diameters from the crank hub, diameter of the engine/conrod with/without bearing and bearing thickness.

A list of measurements on an engine is presented below. This to give customers an indication of what we can do. This particular engine is fitted with special conrods, pistons, valve springs and camshaft for high power output.
