06 – 2017 – VW Caddy (C2) 1.6 TDI (75/90/102 bhp) tuning
News of the month June
The VW Caddy from 2010 until current, called C2 can be equipped with a 1.6 liter turbo diesel engine with engine code CAY (A/B/C -> 75/90/102bhp). Stock performance can vary between 75 to 102 bhp (55 - 75kW) depended on ECU calibration. Yes, correct... the ECU calibration is the difference between these engine performance figures and not engine hardware.
The engine is controlled by a Continental Siemens PCR2.1 ECU. When this ECU is re-calibrated the performance figures can exceed 140bhp (102kW) and 300Nm of torque. Most of these vehicles are used for construction work and can be loaded with heavy tools for the owners job. Once loaded the vehicle performance will decrease due to the added weight. Once the vehicle is re-calibrated by KARREMAN Engineering the owner can enjoy a more powerfull engine over the complete engine speed range giving more flexability and driving pleasure.

02 – 2017 – BMW E46 M3 (MSS54) ECU services
News of the month February
One of the ECUs used to control the S54B32 engine (3246cc, 343bhp) is the MSS54 ECU made by Siemens and BMW. The ECU is mostly fit in the E46 chassis (M3 coupe & convertible). Its derivant, MSS52 is fitted to the E39 M5 (400bhp/500Nm S62B50).
Some interesting features can be done with the MSS54 and or MSS52 ECU:
- Disabling immoblizer (EWS)
- Rear lambda sensor and EGT (Exhaust Gas Temperature) sensor can be disabled
- Sports button memory activated (no reset after ignition is turned off)
- ...

News of the month December
The end of the year is nearby and while I am typing this message I think about the time I have already been busy with my company... I has been already 3 years!
In the last year the company has grown by the amount of customers and most attractive, some new partners.The amount of services available has been growing as well and more people and companies know to find the route to us. We hope and will do the best we can to keep it that way.
I am looking forward to 2017 as it might be the most ecxiting year to come. A new partner has come up who needs the help from our services. We keep it a mystery currently and hope to explore some stunning news in 2017!

11 – 2016 – Cloning Valeo Johnson (PSA) ECU
News of the month November
We have succesfully cloned an ECU from a Citroen C3 1.1l engine equipped with a Valeo Johnson ECU. The ECU circuit board is covered in silicone wax and hard to reach. With success we have removed the silicone wax and attampted the so called "boot-mode" in the ECU to retreive and write the necessary files.
10 – 2016 -Error code clear counter EDC15C2 (Peugeot & Citroen) reset
News of the month November
In the EDC15C2 ECU used in Peugeot’s & Citroen's there is a possibility that you can not clear the error memory after a certain amount of clearings anymore. There is a counter in the ECU that is incremented each time an error memory is cleared. Once it reaches it maximum it is no longer possible to clear the error messages again. Until of today we don’t see the purpose of this counter. After some observations in the memories of the ECU we have found the location of the counter and can reset it. Once reset you are able to clear the error memory again of your Peugeot / Citroen car equipped with EDC15C2 ECU.
Besides error code clear counter we have found a way to completely disable the DPF / FAP additive injection system of these vehicles.
09 – 2016 – BMW MSD80 MSD81 cloning / copy available

Since today we are able to clone the MSD80 / MSD80.1 / MSD81 / MSD81.1 ECU fitted in several BMWs. It is not longer necessary to buy a brand new ECU. 2nd hand ECU can be converted to the state of your original ECU.

05 – 2016 – BMW F20 118d performance upgrade

This month we have remapped a BMW F20 118d. A performance gain of 48bhp and 80Nm was realised giving the enigne 190bhp and 400Nm of torque from 143bhp and 320Nm. 03 – 2016 – BMW E70 X5 3.0d performance and fuel economy upgrades
News of the month March,
This month we have remapped a BMW E70 X5 3.0d. A performance gain of 35bhp and 110Nm was realised giving the enigne 270bhp and 630Nm of torque from 235bhp and 520Nm. Besides the performance gain the calibration was also modified to reduce fuel consumption.
In order to give the best fuel consumption many parameters were adjusted to realize a lower fuel consumption. We have worked close with the owner to realize this. The first upgrade gave a 5-6% lower fuel consumption, The second upgrade 10%! These upgrades are free of charge and we keep developing them together with the customer time by time.

11-2015 – Long life oil, should you leave it in or replace it?
News of the month November 2015:
Long life oil in automatic and manual gearboxes, should you leave it in or replace it?
Who doesn't know the badge/sticker on the gearbox "LIFE TIME OIL, NO OIL CHANGE"? Were we needed to replace our gearbox oil every 2nd big inspection in the old days it isn't necessary according to the owners manual nowadays. Why? Are nowadays oils ready to lubricate and protect your (expensive) gearbox for +100.000km (+70.000 mls)? Maybe they do, but most car manufacturers have a warranty until 2 years of 100.000km / 60.000 mls. After that repairs will be at your own expense.
We don't think it is a good idea to run with the same gearbox oil (manual or automatic) for longer than 100.000km/70.000mls. Deposits and other harmfull components can harm the internals and for sure the dopes in oil would be at there lowest performance level by a time travel of 4 years or 100.000km/70.000mls.
During the last year we have replaced many automatic and manual transmission fluids with very good results. Owners are more than happy with the improved shift quality than before the oil change. Besides the owners of the car, we are still amazed by what fresh oil can do to the shift quality from an automatic gearbox and the improved gear engagement on manual gearboxes. Our explanation for this is mainly the addatives and dopes present in new oil. Besides additives and dopes oil can get thicker by age and mileage causing less lubrication to the already narrow gaps due to tolerances in gearbox designs. Currently we can only speak about the improvement but we are working to get numbers on for instance adaption values in automatix gearboxes to show you the improvement it can bring.
During the beginning of the new year 2016 we are about to present a work around on the replacement of seals, bearings and synchromesh rings on a manual gearbox from a BMW E30 320i. These cars are still a pleasure to drive but 2nd hand parts for these are getting rarer by the day. Therefore we have chosen to fix the current gearbox on this car instead of buying a second hand with possible similar damage/failure symptons by time than the current one. On one day there will be an end to only replace the gearbox for a second hand one and we rather be prepared to repair your gearbox by then instead of not helping you with the problem you have. It is better to gain knowledge about bearings, shaft seals and synchromesh rings replacment alternatives by now before it is to late.
So please check if your gearbox oil is replaced in the past even if you have a new car and check the future update on the repair of a manual gearbox in the future. Be aware that at KARREMAN Engineering the right oils and mechanic capability is present to do oil changes and repair to your gearbox.

09-2015 – BMW E39 M5 MAF problems
News of the month September 2015:
BMW E39 M5 with low power output and driveability issues
A BMW E39 M5 owner came to our workshop this month to investigate the "limp mode" he was experiencing once 4000 [1/min] was reached. Also the engine didn't responded how it did in the past. After reading the error memory and observing the live data it could be observed that the additive and multiplative lambda corrections were high (1.25 = 25% = maximum limit). The Air mass meters (MAF) on this type of vehicle are known errors for this kind of problem. After reading the total consumped air mass it wouldn't go higher than 400-500 [kg/h] while 1000-1200 [kg/h] was expected.
2 new MAFs were ordered (2 since the S62 engine has double air mass meters) and the latest available software was flashed in the MSS52 ECU. The ECU was never updated during its lifetime. After a testdrive 1100 [kh/h] of consumed air mass ould be observed and the additive and multiplative corrections remaind within 1% of its original target. Again we could add another very happy customer to our client list!

BMW E39 M5 met laag vermogen en slechte rij eigenschappen
Een BMW E39 M5 eigenaar is langsgekomen bij onze werkplaats deze maand. De motor ging in storing bij circa 4000 [1/min] en de auto had merkbaar minder vermogen dan voorheen. Na het uitlezen van het foutgeheugen en observeren van de "live data" van de motor kon er opgemerkt worden dat de additieve en multiplicative lambda correcties tegen hun maximale waarde stonden. Simpel gezegd; de uiteindelijke hoeveelheid ingespoten hoeveelheid brandstof die bij het gemeten hoeveel luchtmassa was berekend kwam niet overeen. Er moest maar liefst 25% bijgemengd worden. Nu is de 25% ook een maximale hoeveelheid die bijgemengd kan worden. Bij deze auto is het bekend dat de luchtmassameters na enige tijd de defect raken, en bij het uitlezen kwam die mogelijke oorzaak dan ook naar voren. Er is besloten om de hoeveelheid aangezogen lucht te meten via de "live data". Deze kwam niet boven de 400-500 [kg/h] uit terwijl uit voorgaande berekeningen 1000 a 1200 [kg/h] gemeten zou moeten worden.
Nieuwe luchtmassa meters (MAFs) zijn vervolgens besteld. Op dit type auto zitten 2 luchtmassameters . Naast de nieuwe luchtmassa meters hebben wij ook de laatste software stand in de motor ECU (MSS52) geprogrammeerd. Na een testrit kon wel de verwachte 1100 [kg/h] gemeten worden en voelde de eigenaar een duidelijke verbetering. Het koppel in lage toeren werd zelf bestempeld als "zo sterk heb ik hem nog niet eerder gevoeld!". De additieve en multiplicatieve lambda correcties zijn vervolgens binnen 1% van hun originele (0 en 1.00) waarde gebleven. Dit resultaat bevestigde dat de luchtmassameters de oorzaak van de storing waren. Wederom een tevreden eigenaar binnen onze klantenkring.

A BMW 325i touring from 2008 came in with (high) fuel pressure error codes. The information from the engine management system was recorded and investigated. Low fuel pressure was OK, but high fuel pressure towards injectors showed a decreasing pressure while the fuel flow sensor was opened more. This could only mean the high pressure fuel pump was damaged. After changing the high pressure fuel pump (HPFP) the car responded how it should it be.

03-2015 – A BMW E60 535d came in with a current leak.
A BMW E60 535d came in with a current leak. After turning the ignition on the driver could see a message on his iDrive, Battery current consumption to high! The vehicle was inspected with our oscilloscope and high precise current clamp. After a few hours of searching the faulty component could be found. The MULF( Bluetooth telephone module) was the cause of the current leakage. After contacting the owner he decided to remove the module instead of replacing it. To prevent problems in the future Karreman Engineering recoded the vehicle without MULF module. Besides the current leak investigation, the EGR was turned off at Another happy customer.
